Impact on Pay, Benefits, and Service During a Leave

A leave may affect other Spectrum benefits and services depending on which programs you are participating in at the time you begin your leave.

Jury Duty Leave

Service as a member of a jury is a civic duty that Spectrum makes every effort to support.

All Regular Full and Part Time Staff Members are eligible for full pay during Jury Duty, less any compensation received during jury duty service.  Evidence of jury service is required.  Situations may arise where commitments to clients are in conflict with service as a juror.  In these cases, the Company may ask that you apply to be excused from service or have your service as a juror deferred until a later date.

Maternity and Paternity Leave

Maternity or Paternity Leave is granted to Staff Members in accordance with provisions of applicable law.  Female staff members may be granted maternity leave due to the Staff Member’s inability to work, as documented by the Staff Member’s physician.  Staff Members are required to use accrued vacation and sick leave at the date leave commences to satisfy that portion of the leave.  Any leave taken beyond the period of accrued vacation and sick leave may be unpaid, subject to whatever disability benefits may be available under Spectrum’s disability benefit plans.

Bereavement Leave

In case of the death of a close relative, bereavement leave of up to one week will automatically be granted.  In appropriate instances, such leave may be granted in the case of a close friend.  For situations other than death of a close relative, staff members are expected to discuss leave with their manager and/or HR.

Personal Leave

A Staff Member who has no accrued vacation or sick leave may be granted Personal Leave.  Personal Leave is an approved unpaid leave that is for compelling and exceptional personal circumstances.

Military Service Leave

A Military Leave is an approved unpaid leave for active duty or routine training in the U.S. armed forces, including annual military duty for reservists, examinations to determine fitness to perform military duty, and funeral honors performed by National Guard or reserve members.

All Spectrum Staff Members who are members of the Uniformed Services under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (“USERRA”) are eligible for a Military Leave.

USERRA is the federal law that governs your reinstatement rights following uniformed service.  USERRA generally allows reinstatement if your military service does not exceed five years.  There are some exceptions.  Spectrum reserves the right to request documentation demonstrating that an Staff Member is eligible for reinstatement under USERRA following a Military Leave.
