Tacoma, WA, October 13, 2009 – Spectrum Pension Consultants, a retirement plan consulting firm based in Tacoma, WA, is pleased to announce that the 2009 Spectrum Open raised over $100,000, including enough sleeper chairs to outfit every room in the oncology unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  

“This event was a huge success. It exceeded all of our expectations from a participation and fundraising perspective. It was incredible to watch pledges come in to fund 19 sleeper chairs while our goal was 16,” said Spectrum director, Yannis P. Koumantaros. 

The leather sleeper chairs are used for family members who wish to sleep overnight in the hospital rooms with their loved ones. These transitional recliners combine the warmth of furniture with the functional requirements of healthcare. 

More than 200 golfers, sponsors and auction attendees participated in this year’s event, which took place at Fircrest Golf Club in Tacoma, WA on September 21, 2009 and included a foursome scramble golf tournament, dinner, and auction.  

The Spectrum Open debuted in September 2006, following the untimely passing of Spectrum’s founder Panayotis “Pano” Koumantaros in December 2005. The event celebrates Pano’s love of life, golf, and good food and wine.  

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Pano Koumantaros Cancer Research Fund, administered by The Franciscan Foundation of Franciscan Health Systems, Tacoma, Wash. To date the monies collected from the Spectrum Open and other memorial contributions total over $500,000.  

“It was truly touching to see the generosity with which the community still supports this cause in memory of Pano,” said Maria Koumantaros, Pano’s widow.
